units

The bill shows the FPA month, e.g. "FPA for JUL-26". Enter your units for that month from the 12-month history. Leave blank to use this month's units.

Quarterly adjustment billed September to November 2026. It can be negative, e.g. -0.45. Use the figure on your bill if it differs.

Ticked because many recent bills still show it. Untick it if your bill has no electricity duty line.

Non-filers pay 7.5% income tax when the bill is Rs 25,000 or more.

Your bill's cost of electricity can differ by a few paisa because it is adjusted for the number of days in the reading period. The first bill of a new connection can cover more than one month.

Enter your units and choose protected or unprotected. With the current adjustments, a protected MEPCO home using 180 units pays about Rs 3,659. The same 180 units on an unprotected connection cost about Rs 7,977.

MEPCO is the Multan Electric Power Company. It covers Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and south Punjab. Many MEPCO homes stay under 200 units, which makes the protected rules the most useful thing to understand on this page.

Worked example: 180 units, protected, 2 kW

A protected consumer gets one previous slab at the lower rate. So the first 100 units cost Rs 10.54 and the other 80 cost Rs 13.01.

Line Working Amount
Cost of electricity 100 × 10.54 + 80 × 13.01 Rs 2,094.80
Fixed charges 2.0 kW × Rs 300 Rs 600.00
FC surcharge 180 × 0.43 Rs 77.40
Quarterly adjustment 180 × 0.5194 Rs 93.49
Fuel adjustment 180 × 1.1086 Rs 199.55
Electricity charges Rs 3,065.24
Electricity duty 1.5% of cost of electricity and QTA Rs 32.82
GST 18% of the charges above and duty, rounded Rs 522.00
Duty on fuel adjustment 1.5% of the fuel adjustment Rs 2.99
GST on fuel adjustment 18% of the fuel adjustment and its duty, rounded Rs 36.00
Government charges Rs 593.81
Total Rs 3,659.05

That is Rs 20.33 per unit all in. An unprotected home would pay all 180 units at Rs 28.91, and the bill rises to Rs 7,976.69.

Keeping protected status

You count as protected if you used 200 units or less in each of the previous six months. One month over 200 and you lose it. The following bills are then charged at unprotected rates for about six months, even if you drop back under 200.

In south Punjab, summer cooling often pushes one or two months over the line. If your June or July bill is near 200, a few units saved can keep the protected rate for the rest of the year. In September 2026 the Power Division said it was reviewing this six month rule; until a change is notified, it still applies.

The calculator switches to unprotected rates on its own if you enter more than 200 units with protected ticked.

MEPCO unit price and taxes

MEPCO charges the same national uniform tariff as all other companies. The per unit rates are in the table on the unit price page.

On top of the rate, every MEPCO bill carries:

  • fuel adjustment of Rs 1.1086 per unit (August 2026 fuel adjustment, billed in October 2026)
  • quarterly adjustment of Rs 0.5194 per unit (September, October and November 2026 bills)
  • FC surcharge of Rs 0.43 per unit for protected homes and Rs 3.23 for unprotected homes
  • GST at 18%, and income tax of 7.5% for non-filers once the bill reaches Rs 25,000

Punjab's 2025 law exempts homes from electricity duty. A Punjab bill from April 2026 still showed it, though, so check your MEPCO bill and untick the duty box if there is no duty line.

Reading your MEPCO bill

Take the units consumed for the month, not the meter reading itself. Your sanctioned load in kW is printed near the connection details. If you have a three-phase meter your load is likely higher, and fixed charges scale with it.

A protected home with 1 kW load pays half the fixed charge of a 2 kW home. At 180 units that is Rs 300 instead of Rs 600 before GST.

MEPCO borders FESCO and SEPCO, and all three use one national tariff: see the FESCO bill calculator and the SEPCO bill calculator.

For larger bills see the 300 units bill and 400 units bill pages.

For your exact payable figure, go by the MEPCO bill itself: it adds any arrears, instalments or late payment surcharge and reflects the actual days billed. qaaf is an independent site, not part of MEPCO or NEPRA.

Questions people ask

How do I calculate my MEPCO bill with tax?

Multiply your units by the slab rate, add fixed charges on your sanctioned load, then add the fuel adjustment, quarterly adjustment and FC surcharge per unit (Rs 0.43 protected, Rs 3.23 unprotected). Add 1.5% duty if your bill shows it, then 18% GST. Non-filers add 7.5% income tax on bills of Rs 25,000 or more.

What is the MEPCO 1 unit price in 2026?

For homes it is Rs 10.54 or Rs 13.01 if you are protected, and Rs 22.44 to Rs 47.20 if unprotected, under the February 2026 NEPRA tariff. After all charges and tax, a protected 180 unit bill costs about Rs 20.33 per unit.

I used 205 units once. Will my next MEPCO bills be expensive?

Yes, most likely. Going over 200 units in any month removes protected status, and it is usually restored only after six straight months at 200 or below. During that time all units are billed at unprotected rates, starting at Rs 28.91 for 101 to 200 units.

Does MEPCO charge a different rate in Multan and Bahawalpur?

No. The tariff is the same across the whole MEPCO area and across Pakistan. Differences between neighbours come from consumer type, sanctioned load, meter rent and filer status, not from the city.
