The base price of one unit for homes in Pakistan runs from Rs 10.54 (protected, first 100 units) to Rs 47.20 (unprotected, above 700 units). Once the current adjustments and taxes are added, an unprotected home using 300 units pays about Rs 48 per unit all in.
These rates are the same for every distribution company and K-Electric. They come from the NEPRA uniform tariff of February 2026, which stays in force until the next rebasing, due on 1 January 2027.
Per unit rate by slab
Base rates for domestic connections under 5 kW, S.R.O. 279(I)/2026, effective 12 February 2026.
| Type | Units per month | Rs per unit | Fixed Rs per kW |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lifeline | Up to 50 | 3.95 | None |
| Lifeline | 51 to 100 | 7.74 | None |
| Protected | 1 to 100 | 10.54 | 200 |
| Protected | 101 to 200 | 13.01 | 300 |
| Unprotected | 1 to 100 | 22.44 | 275 |
| Unprotected | 101 to 200 | 28.91 | 300 |
| Unprotected | 201 to 300 | 33.10 | 350 |
| Unprotected | 301 to 400 | 36.46 | 400 |
| Unprotected | 401 to 500 | 38.95 | 500 |
| Unprotected | 501 to 600 | 40.22 | 675 |
| Unprotected | 601 to 700 | 41.85 | 675 |
| Unprotected | Above 700 | 47.20 | 675 |
Protected users get one previous slab at the lower rate. Unprotected users pay the slab rate on every unit, so at 350 units all 350 are charged Rs 36.46.
What one unit really costs
The rate table is only part of the story. Each unit also carries the fuel adjustment (Rs 1.1086), the quarterly adjustment (Rs 0.5194) and the FC surcharge (Rs 3.23 unprotected, Rs 0.43 protected). Then come fixed charges, electricity duty, GST and, for large bills, income tax.
Here is the full bill divided by the units, worked out with the calculator above. It assumes a 2 kW load, electricity duty on and a non-filer.
| Units | Type | Base rate | Total bill | All-in cost per unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | Protected | Rs 10.54 | Rs 1,980 | Rs 19.80 |
| 200 | Protected | Rs 10.54 and 13.01 | Rs 4,021 | Rs 20.10 |
| 100 | Unprotected | Rs 22.44 | Rs 3,913 | Rs 39.13 |
| 200 | Unprotected | Rs 28.91 | Rs 8,786 | Rs 43.93 |
| 300 | Unprotected | Rs 33.10 | Rs 14,448 | Rs 48.16 |
| 400 | Unprotected | Rs 36.46 | Rs 20,716 | Rs 51.79 |
| 500 | Unprotected | Rs 38.95 | Rs 29,439 | Rs 58.88 |
| 700 | Unprotected | Rs 41.85 | Rs 43,767 | Rs 62.52 |
| 800 | Unprotected | Rs 47.20 | Rs 55,284 | Rs 69.11 |
The jump between 400 and 500 units is partly income tax. A 500 unit bill passes Rs 25,000, so a non-filer pays 7.5% more. On the Active Taxpayers List, 500 units comes to Rs 27,385, or Rs 54.77 per unit.
Commercial and shop connections
Shops, offices and other commercial connections are not on the domestic slabs above. They pay the commercial tariff in the same NEPRA decision, and connections of 5 kW or more are billed on peak and off-peak (time of use) rates. The calculators on this site are for homes; check the tariff code printed on a shop's bill before comparing.
Worked example: price of one unit at 300 units
Take an unprotected home using 300 units on a 2 kW load.
- Base rate: Rs 33.10
- Fuel adjustment: Rs 1.1086
- Quarterly adjustment: Rs 0.5194
- FC surcharge: Rs 3.23
- Fixed charges: Rs 700 ÷ 300
Electricity duty and GST then go on top. The total bill of Rs 14,447.68 divided by 300 gives Rs 48.16 per unit.
Without electricity duty, as some Punjab bills now show, the same 300 units come to about Rs 14,263, or Rs 47.54 per unit.
Why the price per unit moves every month
The base rate only changes when NEPRA rebases the tariff, now once a year on 1 January. The adjustments change far more often.
- The fuel adjustment is set monthly and billed two months later. In 2026 it has ranged from minus Rs 0.0102 (March, billed May) to Rs 2.0581 (July, billed September). The calculator uses the August 2026 fuel adjustment, billed in October 2026.
- The quarterly adjustment changes every three months. The calculator uses Rs 0.5194, on September, October and November 2026 bills. A bill whose reading dates straddle a change gets a mix of the two rates, split by days.
You can type any figure into the FCA box of the electricity bill calculator to see the effect of a new fuel adjustment.
Homes and shops with a sanctioned load of 5 kW or more are billed on peak and off-peak rates instead of slabs; the peak hours electricity bill calculator works these out, and the commercial electricity bill calculator covers shops and offices.
Questions people ask
What is the 1 unit electricity price in Pakistan?
The base rate is Rs 10.54 to Rs 13.01 for protected homes and Rs 22.44 to Rs 47.20 for unprotected homes. With the current adjustments and taxes, the real cost is about Rs 20 per unit for a protected home using 200 units and Rs 39 to Rs 69 for an unprotected one, depending on units used.
Is the LESCO unit price different from K-Electric?
No. Since February 2026 the same uniform tariff applies to all eleven government distribution companies and K-Electric. The fuel and quarterly adjustments are also set in the same NEPRA decisions. Differences on your bill come from electricity duty, meter rent and your own load, not from the company.
Why is my per unit cost higher than the tariff rate?
The tariff rate covers the electricity only. The bill adds fixed charges on your sanctioned load, the fuel and quarterly adjustments, the FC surcharge (Rs 3.23, or Rs 0.43 if protected), 1.5% duty where charged and 18% GST. At 300 units the real cost is Rs 48.16 against a tariff rate of Rs 33.10.
Did the unit price change in the July 2026 budget?
No. The base tariff was not changed on 1 July 2026, because rebasing moved to 1 January. The rates set in February 2026 remain in force. What changed on bills after July was the monthly fuel adjustment and the quarterly adjustment.
What is the gas unit price in Pakistan?
Gas is priced per MMBTU, not per unit. Domestic rates run from Rs 200 for the smallest protected slab to Rs 4,200 for non-protected use above 4 hm3. The SNGPL gas bill calculator converts your hm3 reading to MMBTU and works out the bill.
