Formula: weight in tola × 24k rate × 22 ÷ 24 + making charges.

Gold price = weight in tola × 24 karat rate per tola × karat ÷ 24. At the Sarafa rate stored on 8 October 2026, Rs 435,036 per tola, 1 tola of 22 karat gold is worth Rs 398,783 before making charges.

Enter the weight as the jeweller writes it, such as 2 tola 6 masha, or in grams. The rate box starts at the stored Sarafa rate; gold moves several times a day, so type the rate your jeweller quotes today for an exact figure.

Gold calculation formula in Pakistan

Pakistani jewellers price gold in three steps.

1. Convert the weight to tola

1 tola = 12 masha = 96 ratti = 11.6638 g.

Weight in tola = tola + masha ÷ 12 + ratti ÷ 96. For grams, divide by 11.6638.

2. Find the rate for your karat

The daily rate is quoted for 24 karat. For lower purity, multiply by karat ÷ 24:

  • 22 karat: 22 ÷ 24 = 91.67% of the 24k rate
  • 21 karat: 21 ÷ 24 = 87.5%
  • 18 karat: 18 ÷ 24 = 75%

3. Multiply, then add making charges

Gold value = weight in tola × karat rate. Making charges (banwai) are added on top, either as rupees per tola or gram, or as a percentage of the gold value.

Worked example: buying a 22 karat set

A set weighs 2 tola 6 masha, 22 karat. Take the stored 24k rate of Rs 435,036 per tola (8 October 2026). The jeweller charges 8% making; the 8% is only an illustration, as making charges differ by jeweller and design.

  1. Weight: 2 + 6 ÷ 12 = 2.5 tola (29.160 g)
  2. 22k rate: 24k rate × 22 ÷ 24 = Rs 398,783 per tola
  3. Gold value: 2.5 × the 22k rate = Rs 996,958
  4. Making at 8%: Rs 79,757
  5. Total: Rs 1,076,714

Selling old gold: the jeweller's deduction

When you sell or exchange jewellery, the jeweller tests its purity and usually deducts something for impurity, solder and loss in melting. This is often called kaat. It may be quoted as a percentage or as so many ratti per tola. Making charges you paid when buying are not returned.

Worked example

You sell 3 tola of 21 karat jewellery. The jeweller deducts 2 ratti per tola.

  1. 21k rate: 24k rate × 21 ÷ 24 = Rs 380,657 per tola
  2. Gold value: 3 × the 21k rate = Rs 1,141,970
  3. Deduction: 2 ratti is 2 ÷ 96 of each tola = Rs 23,791
  4. You receive: Rs 1,118,178

Select "Selling old gold" in the calculator and enter the deduction your jeweller quotes. Ask for it in writing before the piece is melted.

Silver is priced the same way by tola; the silver calculator values it at 999 or 925 purity.

Gold price questions

How do I calculate the price of 1 gram of gold?

Divide the tola rate by 11.6638. At the stored rate of Rs 435,036 per tola (8 October 2026), 24 karat gold is Rs 37,298 per gram and 22 karat Rs 34,190 per gram. Ten grams of 22 karat is Rs 341,898.

How is the 22 karat rate worked out from the 24 karat rate?

Multiply the 24 karat rate by 22 and divide by 24. That values the gold at 91.67% of pure gold. At Rs 435,036 per tola, 22 karat comes to Rs 398,783 per tola. Some jewellers quote their own 22k rate, which may differ slightly.

Are making charges included in the gold rate?

No. The daily Sarafa rate is for the metal only. Making charges are extra and vary with the jeweller and the design. Ask whether they are per tola, per gram or a percentage, and enter them that way.

How do I find what my gold jewellery is worth?

Enter the weight and the karat, and leave making charges at none. The result is the metal value at the rate in the box, so type the day's rate first. That is the most a jeweller will usually pay when you sell, less any deduction they make. Making charges you paid when buying are not returned.

Sone ki qeemat tola ke hisab se kaise nikalein?

Wazan ko tola mein badlein (masha ÷ 12 aur ratti ÷ 96 jor kar), phir 24 karat rate ko karat ÷ 24 se zarb dein aur wazan se zarb karein. Banwai alag se judti hai. Rate box mein us din ka Sarafa rate likhein taake jawab sahi aaye.

Gold rates change several times a day and differ slightly between cities and jewellers.
