M-2 is run under a concession, and its toll rises about 7% a year. The rates below apply from July 2026 until 23 April 2027.
| Vehicle | One way | Return |
|---|---|---|
| Car, jeep or taxi | Rs 1,430 | Rs 2,860 |

| 2 or 3 axle truck | Rs 6,210 | Rs 12,420 |
| Articulated truck | Rs 7,980 | Rs 15,960 |
A family making the Lahore to Islamabad round trip four times a month by car pays Rs 11,440 a month in toll, or Rs 137,280 a year.
M-5 Multan to Sukkur toll by vehicle
The M-5 runs about 392 km from Multan to Sukkur, longer than the M-2, so its full-length toll is higher. The toll is the same from Sukkur to Multan. Rates from 10 July 2026:
| Vehicle | One way | Return |
|---|---|---|
| Car, jeep or taxi | Rs 1,500 | Rs 3,000 |
| Wagon (Hiace type) | Rs 2,200 | Rs 4,400 |
| Coaster | Rs 3,250 | Rs 6,500 |
| Bus | Rs 4,600 | Rs 9,200 |
| 2 or 3 axle truck | Rs 5,950 | Rs 11,900 |
| Articulated truck | Rs 7,250 | Rs 14,500 |
A car paid Rs 1,200 before the July 2026 revision. A wagon means a van of up to 12 seats, such as a Hiace; the coaster class covers 13 to 24 seats, which includes most minibuses.
Worked example: a freight truck on the M-5
A transporter runs an articulated truck from Multan to Sukkur and back five times a month: 5 × 2 × Rs 7,250 = Rs 72,500 a month. A 2 or 3 axle truck on the same schedule pays Rs 59,500. Fleet owners should budget the toll per trip alongside diesel; the fuel cost calculator does the fuel side.
Toll for buses on each motorway
One-way toll for a full-size bus over the full length of each road, from July 2026:
| Road | Section | Before | Now, one way | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M-2 | Lahore to Islamabad | Rs 4,770 | 5 July 2026 | |
| M-1 | Islamabad to Peshawar | Rs 1,650 | Rs 2,100 | 10 July 2026 |
| M-3 | Lahore to Abdul Hakeem | Rs 3,150 | 10 July 2026 | |
| M-4 | Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad to Multan | Rs 4,050 | 10 July 2026 | |
| M-5 | Multan to Sukkur | Rs 4,600 | 10 July 2026 | |
| M-14 | Hakla to D.I. Khan | Rs 2,800 | 10 July 2026 | |
| E-35 | Hassanabdal to Havelian to Mansehra | Rs 1,150 | 10 July 2026 | |
| E-75 | Islamabad Murree Dual Carriageway | Rs 450 | 10 July 2026 | |
| N-55 | Kohat Tunnel | Rs 750 | 10 July 2026 | |
| Highways | National highway toll plaza (each plaza) | Rs 300 | 10 July 2026 |
A bus pays about three times the car toll on most motorways. On the Kohat Tunnel the bus rate is the same as for a 2 or 3 axle truck.
How motorway toll is charged
On closed motorways such as M-2 and M-1, the toll depends on where you get on and where you get off. Your entry interchange is recorded, and the toll is taken at the exit. The figures above are for driving the whole road. A shorter trip, for example Lahore to Kallar Kahar, costs less.
Toll also depends on the vehicle class: car, wagon up to 12 seats, coaster or minibus with 13 to 24 seats, bus, 2 or 3 axle truck, and articulated truck. The calculator has every class for the motorways and E-35. National highway plazas, the Kohat Tunnel and the Islamabad Murree dual carriageway have no separate coaster class; a coaster driver there should check the rate board at the plaza.
M-Tag and the extra charge
In June 2025 NHA notified a higher toll, 50% extra, for vehicles passing with no M-Tag or too little balance. The Islamabad High Court suspended that decision on 4 July 2026 while it hears a petition against it. The calculator uses the normal rate. Keep your M-Tag topped up so the full toll can be taken at the exit.
Fuel is the other big cost of a motorway trip. Work out your own figure with the fuel cost calculator.
For the busiest route, the Lahore to Islamabad toll calculator has every M-2 class and the monthly cost of regular trips.
Toll rates change often: NHA raised them twice in the first three months of 2025, withdrew an increase announced on 3 April 2026 the same day, and revised them again from 10 July 2026. M-9 (Karachi to Hyderabad), M-11 (Lahore to Sialkot) and interchange-to-interchange tolls are not included. Check the rate board at the toll plaza.
Toll tax questions
What is the toll tax from Lahore to Islamabad?
Rs 1,430 one way for a car, jeep or taxi on the M-2 motorway from July 2026, so Rs 2,860 for a return trip. A wagon pays Rs 2,390, a coaster Rs 3,350 and a bus Rs 4,770 one way. These rates apply until 23 April 2027.
How much is the M-1 Islamabad to Peshawar toll?
Rs 700 one way for a car over the full length of M-1, up from Rs 550 before the July 2026 revision. A wagon pays Rs 1,100 and a bus Rs 2,100. The Islamabad to Peshawar toll calculator has every class and the old rates side by side.
Is there a penalty for not having an M-Tag?
NHA notified a 50% higher toll in June 2025 for vehicles with no M-Tag or a low balance. On 4 July 2026 the Islamabad High Court suspended that decision while the case is heard. Motorways are moving to cashless toll, so an M-Tag with enough balance is the simplest way to pay.
How often does motorway toll go up?
M-2 rises about 7% each year under its concession agreement, usually in the summer. NHA revises tolls on its other motorways and highways by notification, twice in 2025 and again from 10 July 2026. An increase due on 5 April 2026 was withdrawn on the day it was announced.
What is the toll for a truck on the M-4 and M-5?
From 10 July 2026 a 2 or 3 axle truck pays Rs 5,300 over the full M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Multan and Rs 5,950 over the full M-5 from Multan to Sukkur. An articulated truck pays Rs 6,500 and Rs 7,250. A shorter section costs less, charged by entry and exit point.
What is the Multan to Sukkur toll tax for a car?
Rs 1,500 one way and Rs 3,000 return on the M-5, from 10 July 2026. A bus pays Rs 4,600 and an articulated truck Rs 7,250. Leaving the motorway before Sukkur costs less, because the toll is charged by the interchanges you pass.
