Fill the tank to the brim, note the odometer, drive as usual, then fill to the brim again. The litres of the second fill are the fuel you used.

Distance driven450 km
Fuel used32.00 litres
Litres per 100 km7.11
Fuel spendRs 12,767
Fuel cost per kmRs 28.37

Fuel average is distance divided by fuel: km per litre = kilometres driven ÷ litres used. If the odometer moved 450 km between two full tanks and the second fill took 32 litres, your average is 450 ÷ 32 = 14.06 km/l. To find the fuel cost of a trip, divide the distance by your average and multiply by the price per litre.

The tabs above do each of these: fuel average, trip cost and a monthly budget. The price box starts at the petrol price stored on 9 October 2026 (Rs 398.96 a litre). Prices change several times a month, so type in the price you paid or the one on the pump today.

Petrol and diesel price in Pakistan

Prices per litre stored in the calculator. Type the price on the pump if it has changed:

FuelPrice per litre from 9 October 2026Before (8 October 2026)
PetrolRs 398.96Rs 396.65
High speed dieselRs 395.72Rs 394.94

The government now revises petrol and diesel prices several times a month under a daily pricing mechanism linked to international prices, instead of once a fortnight.

How to calculate fuel average

The full-tank method is the most reliable way to check your car's or motorcycle's average. The fuel gauge is not accurate enough, so use the pump.

  1. Fill the tank until the pump clicks off. Note the odometer, or reset the trip meter.
  2. Drive normally for at least 150 km in a car or 100 km on a bike.
  3. Fill up to the brim again at the same pump if you can. Note the litres and the odometer.
  4. Divide the kilometres driven by the litres of the second fill.

Example: the odometer went from 45,200 to 45,650 km, and the tank took 32 litres.

Step Result
Distance: 45,650 − 45,200 450 km
Average: 450 ÷ 32 14.06 km/l
Litres per 100 km: 32 ÷ 450 × 100 7.11
Fuel spent: 32 × Rs 398.96 Rs 12,767
Cost per km Rs 28.37

Repeat it over two or three fills and take the total kilometres over the total litres; one tank can mislead if you spent a day in traffic.

When you only know the rupees

Most people buy fuel by amount: "Rs 2,000 ka petrol". Divide the rupees by the price per litre to get the litres, then divide the distance by the litres. If a motorcycle ran 240 km on Rs 2,000 of petrol, fuel cost Rs 2,000 ÷ 240 = Rs 8.33 per km whatever the price, and its average is 240 ÷ (2,000 ÷ the price per litre). Enter the rupees paid in the optional box of the fuel average tab to get the cost per km. This only works if you fill to the same level each time.

How to calculate petrol cost for a trip

Fuel cost = distance ÷ average × price per litre.

Example: 380 km each way, return, in a car that averages 14 km/l.

Step Result
Total distance: 380 × 2 760 km
Fuel needed: 760 ÷ 14 54.3 litres
Cost: 54.3 × Rs 398.96 Rs 21,658

Split between four friends, that is Rs 5,414 each. On a motorway, add the toll with the motorway toll tax calculator: the M-2 return toll for a car is Rs 2,860.

Plan the stops

For a long trip, divide your tank size by your average to see how far a full tank goes, and keep about a tenth in reserve. A 37 litre tank at 13 km/l covers about 433 km with 10% kept back, so a 760 km return trip from a full tank needs one fill-up on the way.

km per litre to litres per 100 km

Pakistani drivers talk in km per litre; car makers and foreign reviews often give litres per 100 km. Litres per 100 km = 100 ÷ km per litre.

The last column is British miles per imperial gallon (1 km/l = 2.825 mpg), which you may see on imported car brochures.

Monthly fuel budget

Multiply your daily distance by the number of days you drive, then work out the fuel as above. Driving 40 km a day for 26 days is 1,040 km a month. At 14 km/l that is 74.3 litres, or Rs 29,637 a month at Rs 398.96 a litre, and about Rs 355,644 a year.

Why your average is lower than the brochure

Makers' figures come from standard lab tests at steady speeds. Real averages fall with short trips, stop-start traffic, air conditioning, low tyre pressure, extra load and idling. Motorway driving at a steady 100 to 110 km/h usually gives a car's best figure. A sudden drop on a route you drive often is worth a check of tyre pressure and the air filter.

On the Lahore to Islamabad motorway, add the M-2 toll to the fuel cost for the full trip cost.

Fuel questions

How do I calculate my car's fuel average?

Fill the tank to the brim and note the odometer. Drive until the tank is at least half empty, then fill to the brim again. Divide the kilometres driven by the litres of the second fill. If you drove 450 km and it took 32 litres, your average is 14.06 km per litre.

How do I calculate petrol cost per km?

Divide the price of a litre by your average in km per litre. At Rs 398.96 a litre and 14 km/l, each kilometre costs Rs 28.50. For a trip, multiply that by the distance, or divide the distance by your average and multiply by the price.

How do I calculate petrol average from rupees?

Divide the rupees by the price per litre to get litres, then divide the distance by the litres. Rs 3,000 at Rs 300 a litre would be 10 litres; if the car ran 130 km on it, the average is 13 km/l. Use the price you actually paid.

How do I convert km per litre to litres per 100 km?

Divide 100 by the km per litre figure. A car doing 14 km/l uses 100 / 14 = 7.14 litres per 100 km. To go the other way, divide 100 by the litres per 100 km. The calculator shows both.

Which petrol price does the calculator use?

It starts with the price stored on 9 October 2026: petrol Rs 398.96 and high speed diesel Rs 395.72 a litre. Prices now change several times a month, so check the latest price at the pump or in the news and type it into the price box.

How much petrol does 1,000 km cost?

Divide 1,000 by your average and multiply by the price. At 14 km/l, 1,000 km needs 71.4 litres, which at Rs 398.96 a litre is about Rs 28,497. The table above shows other averages.
