UBL IBAN Generator

Makes your UBL (United Bank Limited) IBAN from your 12-digit account number, with the check digits worked out, or checks a UBL IBAN.
What do you want to do?

12-digit account number (e.g. 0959-0104812-2), or an older 9-digit account number. The 4-digit branch code is not part of the IBAN.

Dashes and spaces are ignored. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

How the check digits were worked out

1. Move PK00 to the end: UNIL0112012304567890PK00
2. Turn letters into numbers (A = 10 ... Z = 35): 302318210112012304567890252000
3. Remainder after dividing by 97: 86
4. Check digits = 98 minus 86 = 12

Confirm this IBAN in your bank's app or on your statement before you share it. A wrong IBAN can send money to the wrong place or get it stuck.

A UBL IBAN for a 12-digit account is PK, two check digits, UNIL, then 0112 and the 12-digit account number. The branch code is not part of it. A 12-digit UBL account is often written like 0123-0456789-0.

Type the 12 digits above and the IBAN appears. For 0123-0456789-0 it is PK12 UNIL 0112 0123 0456 7890.

UBL differs from most banks. Its IBAN is not just the account number padded with zeros: 12-digit accounts get the prefix 0112. Real UBL IBANs printed with their 12-digit account numbers all read UNIL0112 followed by the 12 digits, and pass the ISO check.

Older 9-digit UBL accounts appear in published IBANs as 0109000 followed by the 9 digits. Treat an IBAN made from a 9-digit number as a guide and confirm it with UBL before you use it.

UBL Digital, cheque book and statement

Open account details in the UBL Digital app, where the IBAN is shown with the account number. It is also on your bank statement. The account number is printed on your cheque book; some statements show the 4-digit branch code in front of it, but the IBAN uses only the 12-digit account number.

Allied Bank's sheet of account formats for interbank transfers lists UBL numbers as a 4-digit branch code with either 9 or 12 account digits.

Worked example: a 12-digit UBL account

Account number 0123-0456789-0:

  1. 16-digit part: 0112 + 012304567890 = 0112012304567890.
  2. Rearranged: UNIL0112012304567890PK00.
  3. Letters to numbers (U = 30, N = 23, I = 18, L = 21, P = 25, K = 20): 302318210112012304567890252000.
  4. Remainder after dividing by 97: 86. Check digits: 98 minus 86 = 12.

IBAN: PK12 UNIL 0112 0123 0456 7890. Generic IBAN tools that only pad the account number with zeros would give a different, wrong IBAN for UBL. For other banks, use the IBAN generator for all banks.

Spotting a wrong UBL IBAN

PK12 UNIL 0112 0123 0456 7809 looks right but has its last two digits reversed. In Check an IBAN it leaves a remainder of 45 when divided by 97, and only a remainder of 1 is valid. The typed digits would need check digits of 65.

The correct PK12 UNIL 0112 0123 0456 7890 passes. The test always catches one wrong digit or two neighbouring digits in the wrong order.

Common mistakes with UBL IBANs

  • Typing the branch code in front. A 4-digit branch code plus the 12-digit account makes 16 digits, which UBL's IBAN does not use. The calculator refuses 16 digits and asks for the 12-digit account number alone.
  • Padding with zeros instead of 0112. A generic tool that turns 012304567890 into 0000012304567890 gives a wrong UBL IBAN. The UBL rule puts 0112 in front.
  • Reading 0112 as a branch code. It is the same for every 12-digit account, whichever branch holds it.
  • Old 9-digit accounts. These carry the prefix 0109000 in published UBL IBANs, so 123456789 gives PK74 UNIL 0109 0001 2345 6789. Confirm a 9-digit result with UBL before you share it.

UBL Digital and your statement are the final word on your IBAN; check there before sharing it. This site is independent of UBL.

UBL IBAN questions

What is UBL's IBAN bank code?

UNIL. Every UBL IBAN starts PK, then two check digits, then UNIL, the same four letters that open UBL's SWIFT code.

Why does my UBL IBAN have 0112 in it?

UBL builds the 16-digit part of its IBAN from a 4-digit prefix and your 12-digit account number. For 12-digit accounts the prefix is 0112. It is not your branch code.

I have a UBL account number with a branch code in front. What do I type?

Type only the 12-digit account number. The branch code is not part of the UBL IBAN. If you type 16 digits the calculator will tell you the length is wrong.

Is my old 9-digit UBL account covered?

The calculator will build an IBAN from a 9-digit number using the 0109000 prefix that UBL IBANs for these accounts carry. Check the result with UBL before you use it.

How do I generate my UBL IBAN online?

Type your 12-digit UBL account number above, with or without dashes. The calculator puts PK, the check digits, UNIL and 0112 in front of it. For 0123-0456789-0 the IBAN is PK12 UNIL 0112 0123 0456 7890. Then match it with UBL Digital or your statement.
