The Punjab Police age limit for constable and lady constable is 18 to 22 years, counted on the date printed in each advert. The April 2026 district advert used 5 May 2026, and the calculator starts with that date as an example. Driver constables can be 21 to 30, Sub Inspectors recruited through the PPSC 20 to 25, and Inspector Legal candidates 18 to 32. The adverts give no general age relaxation; the Punjab 5-year relaxation used in other government jobs does not apply.
Districts advertise on their own timetables, so replace the example date with the one printed in the advert you are applying under. Then pick the post and enter your date of birth. Ex-army applicants enter their years of service as well, since their limit works differently.
Punjab Police age limits by post
| Post | Age limit | Age taken on | Relaxation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Constable, lady constable | 18 to 22 | Date in the advert (5 May 2026 in the April 2026 district advert) | None |
| Constable Dolphin Squad, Traffic Assistant | 18 to 22 | Same | None |
| Driver Constable | 21 to 30 | Same | None |
| Sub Inspector (BS-14), through PPSC | 20 to 25 | Closing date (2 October 2025 for advert 36/2025) | None |
| Inspector Legal (BS-16), through PPSC | 18 to 32; in-service police 18 to 45 | 1 January 2025 for advert 26/2025 | Only the in-service limit |
The constable advert says plainly that no relaxation is given in height, chest, education or age. PPSC's Sub Inspector advert says the same about age. So the limit printed for the post is the limit, to the day.
Ex-army candidates for constable
Ten per cent of constable and driver constable posts are kept for former soldiers. For them the advert counts age differently: take your present age, subtract your years of army service, and the result must be 22 or less. Your present age must also be 40 or less, and you must have retired within the last two years. Soldiers released on disciplinary grounds cannot apply.
Choose "Ex-army" in the calculator and enter your completed years of service. It adds them to 22 and stops at 40. Enter whole completed years: if your service runs to some months more, the real limit is slightly higher than the one shown.
Worked examples
These examples use the 5 May 2026 date from the April 2026 district advert. With your own advert's date the figures change.
Hamza, born 14 August 2005, constable. On 5 May 2026 he is 20 years, 8 months and 21 days old. He fits, with 1 year, 3 months and 9 days to spare. Anyone born between 5 May 2004 and 5 May 2008, both dates included, was within the limit for that advert.
Bilal, born 20 November 2003, constable. On 5 May 2026 he is 22 years, 5 months and 15 days old: over by 5 months and 15 days. As a driver constable (21 to 30) he would be within the limit, if he has the two years' LTV licence the post needs.
Ex-army applicant, born 1 March 1994, 11 years' service. He is 32 years, 2 months and 4 days old on 5 May 2026. His limit is 22 + 11 = 33, so he fits. With only 10 years' service his limit would be 32 and he would be over by 2 months and 4 days.
Sub Inspector, born 1 October 2000. On the PPSC closing date of 2 October 2025 he was 25 years and 1 day old, so he was over by one day.
Children of police martyrs
The Punjab Cabinet raised the age limit from 22 to 25 for the recruitment of children of police martyrs and of employees who died in service (Punjab Police, April 2023). This is for their own recruitment scheme, not the open constable advert. Pick that option in the calculator to check against 25, and confirm the details with your district police office.
Candidates from police families can also claim extra marks in the open constable recruitment; this does not change the age limit.
Each district advertises its own constable posts with its own dates, so always use the date in the advert you are applying to. Government and semi-government employees apply through their department with a no objection certificate. This calculator is not affiliated with Punjab Police or the PPSC.
Punjab Police age questions
What is the age limit for Punjab Police constable?
18 to 22 years on the date printed in the advert, for both constable and lady constable. In the April 2026 district advert that date was 5 May 2026, so candidates born between 5 May 2004 and 5 May 2008 were within the limit. For a newer advert, enter its date in the calculator. No age relaxation is given.
Is there any age relaxation in Punjab Police jobs?
Not for open merit. The constable advert says no relaxation is given in age, and PPSC's Sub Inspector advert says the same. Ex-army candidates are judged on their age minus their army service, which must be 22 or less, up to age 40.
What is the age limit for driver constable in Punjab Police?
21 to 30 years on the advert's date. A driver constable also needs an LTV driving licence held for at least two years and must pass a driving test.
What is the age limit for Sub Inspector in Punjab Police?
20 to 25 years for open merit Sub Inspector (BS-14) posts advertised by the PPSC, counted on the closing date. For advert 36/2025 that was 2 October 2025. PPSC printed that no age relaxation would be given.
What is the age limit for Inspector in Punjab Police?
For Inspector Legal (BS-16), recruited through the PPSC, it is 18 to 32, and 18 to 45 for in-service Punjab Police employees. In advert 26/2025 age was counted on 1 January 2025. Candidates need a law degree and two years' practice.
Can a 23 year old apply for Punjab Police constable?
Not on open merit: the limit is 22 on the advert's date. A 23 year old can apply as a driver constable (21 to 30), as a Sub Inspector through the PPSC (20 to 25) if they meet its qualification, or under the ex-army or martyrs' children provisions if they apply.
