"Not more than 35 years" is read strictly: on the cut-off date you may be 35 years and 0 days, not a day more. The FPSC or department advert for the post has the final word.

For a government job in Pakistan, your age is taken on the closing date in the advert. Federal adverts print a range for the post, such as 18 to 25, and add a general relaxation of 5 years; on top of that you may claim one category relaxation. Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan each set their own relaxations.

Choose the government or commission, enter your date of birth and the closing date, and the calculator gives your exact age on that day, your upper limit after relaxation, and the range of birth dates that qualify. For the competitive exam, the CSS age limit calculator applies the CSS rules, which have their own cut-off date and relaxation.

Age rules and relaxations by government

The rules below are the ones the calculator uses. Only one category relaxation can be claimed, though the federal general relaxation is added on top of it.

Provincial relaxations are often time-bound and renewed by notification. The advert you are applying to always has the final word.

Competitive exams have their own rules

Competitive exams do not use the closing date. For CSS, age is counted on 31 December of the year before the exam, the limit is 21 to 30 and only the two years of rule 6 can be added, so the 5-year federal general relaxation does not apply. The CSS age limit calculator works this out. The Punjab and Sindh provincial exams count age on their own dates; see the PMS age limit calculator. For other FPSC and PPSC posts, the FPSC age limit and PPSC age limit pages list the rules for each commission. Police recruitment is different again: Punjab Police constable adverts give no relaxation at all, which the Punjab Police age limit calculator takes into account.

Federal jobs: the 5-year general relaxation

Federal adverts print the limit for the post, such as 18 to 25, and add "plus 5 years general relaxation". This comes from an Establishment Division order of November 2000. On top of it you can claim one relaxation under the Initial Appointment to Civil Posts (Relaxation of Upper Age Limit) Rules 1993, such as 10 years for government servants (up to age 55) or 3 years for candidates from rural Sindh and Balochistan for posts in BPS-15 and below.

Example

Advert limit 18 to 25, closing date 15 October 2026, born 1 January 1996. The age on the closing date is 30 years, 9 months and 14 days. With the general relaxation the upper limit is 30, so the candidate is over by 9 months and 14 days. A rural Sindh domicile for a BPS-15 post adds 3 years: the limit becomes 33 and the candidate qualifies.

How age is counted for an age limit

"Not more than 30 years" is read to the day. On the cut-off date you may be 30 years and 0 days, but not 30 years and 1 day. Commissions do not round. The calculator therefore shows the exact age, how far over or under you are, and the first and last dates of birth that qualify.

Age is counted in completed years, months and days. A birthday on 29 February counts on 28 February in a common year.

Relaxations change often. Sindh's relaxation runs to 31 December 2026, Balochistan's is for three years from August 2026, and Punjab renews its general relaxation by notification. Read the age clause of the advert and the commission's instructions before you apply. This calculator is not affiliated with FPSC or any public service commission.

Age limit questions

Does the 5-year general relaxation apply to CSS?

No. The Establishment Division's clarification of June 2010 says the relaxations for other federal posts do not apply to posts filled through the CSS exam. CSS has its own 2-year relaxation for the categories in its rules, which caps the age at 32.

What is the upper age limit for government jobs in Pakistan?

It depends on the post. Adverts print a range, often 18 to 25 or 21 to 30, then add relaxation. Federal jobs add 5 years general relaxation plus one category, such as 10 years for serving government servants. Punjab adds 5 years for men and 8 for women, and Balochistan has raised its limit to 43.

On which date is my age counted?

For most government jobs, the closing date of the advert. Some commissions fix a different date for competitive exams, so check the advert. Enter that date in the calculator to see your exact age on it.

Can I combine two relaxations?

Not two category relaxations. The 1993 federal rules say a candidate entitled under more than one category gets relaxation in one only. The federal 5-year general relaxation is separate and is added on top of that one category.
