COMSATS merit is 50% NTS NAT, 40% Intermediate and 10% Matric. So 70 in NAT, 900 in Intermediate and 950 in Matric (both out of 1,100) gives an aggregate of 76.3636%.
The same weightage is used for undergraduate admission at every COMSATS campus. Enter your NAT score, then your Intermediate and Matric marks with the totals printed on your mark sheets. If your Intermediate result is still awaited, see the SSC-only rule below.
The COMSATS aggregate formula
Aggregate = (NAT ÷ 100 × 50) + (Intermediate ÷ total × 40) + (Matric ÷ total × 10)
Worked example
NAT 70 out of 100, Intermediate 900 out of 1,100, Matric 950 out of 1,100.
- NAT: 70 ÷ 100 × 50 = 35.0000
- Intermediate: 900 ÷ 1,100 × 40 = 32.7273
- Matric: 950 ÷ 1,100 × 10 = 8.6364
- Aggregate: 76.3636%
A second example
NAT 55, Intermediate 780 out of 1,100, Matric 850 out of 1,100.
- NAT: 55 ÷ 100 × 50 = 27.5000
- Intermediate: 780 ÷ 1,100 × 40 = 28.3636
- Matric: 850 ÷ 1,100 × 10 = 7.7273
- Aggregate: 63.5909%
Each NAT mark is worth 0.5 points. Each Intermediate mark out of 1,100 is worth about 0.036 points. Ten more NAT marks add five points to your aggregate, the same as about 137 more Intermediate marks.
What your NAT score does to your aggregate
With your academic marks fixed, the test decides most of the result. This table keeps Intermediate at 900 and Matric at 950 (both out of 1,100) and changes only the NAT score.
| NAT score | COMSATS aggregate |
|---|---|
| 50 | 66.3636% |
| 60 | 71.3636% |
| 70 | 76.3636% |
| 80 | 81.3636% |
| 90 | 86.3636% |
To find the NAT score you need, take your target aggregate, subtract your Intermediate and Matric parts, then double what is left. With the marks above, those two parts add up to 41.3636. A target of 80 needs (80 − 41.3636) × 2 = 77.27, so 78 in NAT. You can also type a target in the calculator's optional box: with these marks and a target of 80 it shows 78 out of 100.
NTS NAT for COMSATS
COMSATS ranks undergraduate applicants on the NTS National Aptitude Test (NAT-I). Pick the NAT category that matches your Intermediate group, unless your programme's admission notice names another one. NTS lists these categories:
| Intermediate group | NAT category | Subject section |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-engineering | NAT-IE | Physics 10, chemistry 10, mathematics 10 |
| Pre-medical | NAT-IM | Physics 8, chemistry 8, biology 14 |
| Computer science (ICS) | NAT-ICS | Physics 10, computer 10, mathematics 10 |
| General science | NAT-IGS | Mathematics 10, statistics 10, economics 10 |
| Commerce | NAT-ICOM | Accounting 10, commerce 10, economics 10 |
| Arts | NAT-IA | Islamiyat or ethics 10, Pakistan studies 10, general knowledge 10 |
Every NAT-I paper has 90 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes: 20 English, 20 analytical, 20 quantitative and 30 from your subjects. NTS says a NAT result is valid for one year. In 2026 NTS scheduled a NAT test every month, from NAT-I in January to NAT-XII in December, so there is usually a test date before a COMSATS deadline.
If your Intermediate result is awaited
CUI's admission FAQs allow you to apply on Matric marks while the HSSC result is pending. The merit is then 50% SSC and 50% NTS. Use the general aggregate calculator with two parts at 50% each.
With NAT 70 and Matric 950 out of 1,100, that gives 35 + 43.1818 = 78.1818%. The same FAQs say result-awaited applicants can submit a hope certificate from their college, or an affidavit on Rs 50 or Rs 100 stamp paper.
Do not type your Part I marks into the Intermediate row. The 40% share is for the Intermediate result, so with only Part I marks the SSC-only rule is the one that fits.
Campuses and admission rounds
COMSATS lists campuses in Islamabad, Abbottabad, Lahore, Sahiwal, Wah, Attock and Vehari, plus its Virtual Campus. Applications for all of them go through the one COMSATS online admissions portal, where you enter your NTS roll number. CUI holds admissions twice a year, in the Spring and Fall sessions.
The formula does not change from campus to campus. What changes is the competition: a popular programme in Islamabad or Lahore can fill at a higher aggregate than the same programme elsewhere. Read the merit lists of the campus you want rather than comparing your figure with another campus.
Common mistakes
- Typing a total of 1,100 when your sheet says something else. Board totals differ. Use the total printed on your own mark sheet in each row.
- Using a percentage in the marks box. If you enter 81.8 as marks out of 1,100, the result is far too low. Enter marks with their total, or a percentage with a total of 100.
- Mixing up the NAT category. A score in the wrong category may not be accepted for your programme. Check the programme notice before you register with NTS.
- Rounding too early. Work each part to four decimals and add at the end, as the calculator does. Rounding each part to a whole number can move you by more than a point.
Check your programme notice. The 50/40/10 weightage is from COMSATS admission FAQs. Some programmes add their own eligibility conditions, such as subject combinations or a minimum percentage, so read the notice for your campus and programme before relying on the figure. Once you are studying, the COMSATS GPA calculator works out semester GPA and CGPA on CUI's grading scale.
COMSATS merit questions
How is the COMSATS aggregate calculated?
COMSATS gives 50% weight to NTS NAT, 40% to Intermediate and 10% to Matric. For NAT 70/100, Intermediate 900/1,100 and Matric 950/1,100 the aggregate is 35 + 32.7273 + 8.6364 = 76.3636%. The rule is in CUI's admission FAQs.
Is the COMSAT, COMSATS or CUI merit calculator the same thing?
Yes. COMSATS University Islamabad is often written COMSAT or shortened to CUI. It is one university with several campuses, and the undergraduate weightage of 50% NAT, 40% Intermediate and 10% Matric applies to all of them, including Lahore, Wah and Abbottabad.
Is the COMSATS Lahore merit formula different?
No. COMSATS Lahore uses the same weightage as the other campuses, and its admissions page points applicants to NTS NAT. What differs is the closing merit, because Lahore programmes draw more applicants. Check the Lahore merit lists for the programme you want.
Which NTS test do I need for COMSATS?
The NTS National Aptitude Test for Intermediate students, NAT-I. Choose the category for your group: NAT-IE for pre-engineering, NAT-IM for pre-medical, NAT-ICS for computer science, NAT-ICOM for commerce, NAT-IGS for general science or NAT-IA for arts. The result is valid for one year.
Can I apply to COMSATS with only Matric marks?
Yes, if your Intermediate result is awaited. CUI then ranks you on 50% SSC and 50% NTS. NAT 70 and Matric 950/1,100 gives 35 + 43.1818 = 78.1818%. Submit a hope certificate or an affidavit with your form, and your merit is worked out again once the result arrives.
What NAT score do I need for COMSATS?
It depends on your academic marks and the closing merit of your programme. Subtract your Intermediate and Matric parts from the aggregate you are aiming for, then double the rest. With Intermediate 900 and Matric 950 out of 1,100, an 80% aggregate needs 78 in NAT.
