LUMS GPA Calculator

Calculate your LUMS semester GPA and CGPA from letter grades. Uses the LUMS handbook scale (A- 3.7, B+ 3.3) by default, with a two-decimal option (A- 3.67) if your transcript shows that.

LUMS grades each course with a letter, and each letter has fixed grade points. On the scale printed in the LUMS handbook, A+ and A are 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, and so on down to D at 1.0 and F at 0. Your GPA is the credit-weighted average of those points.

Pick the grade for each course and enter its credit hours. If your transcript shows two-decimal points such as 3.67 for A-, switch the grade point scale; the difference is at most 0.03 per course. For CGPA, open the previous semesters section and add your current CGPA and the credit hours it covers.

LUMS letter grades and grade points

The first column is the scale printed in the LUMS handbook. The second is a two-decimal version that you can choose in the calculator.

GradeHandbook scale (A- 3.7)Two-decimal scale (A- 3.67)
A+4.004.00
A4.004.00
A-3.703.67
B+3.303.33
B3.003.00
B-2.702.67
C+2.302.33
C2.002.00
C-1.701.67
D1.001.00
F0.000.00

There is no D+ on this scale, and A+ earns no more than A. The handbook says A+ and F are absolute grades, while grades from A to D may be awarded on relative performance. So there is no fixed marks table: your instructor sets the cut-offs for each course.

Worked example: LUMS semester and CGPA

Course Credit hours Grade Points Grade points × credits
Course 1 3 A 4.0 12.0
Course 2 3 A- 3.7 11.1
Course 3 3 B+ 3.3 9.9
Course 4 4 B 3.0 12.0
Course 5 3 C+ 2.3 6.9
Total 16 51.9

Semester GPA = 51.9 ÷ 16 = 3.24.

If your CGPA before this semester was 3.40 over 48 credit hours, your earlier total is 3.40 × 48 = 163.2. The new CGPA is (163.2 + 51.9) ÷ 64 = 3.36.

Repeated courses and the best grade rule

Under the LUMS undergraduate handbook, a course graded C- or below (including F) may be repeated. When you repeat it, the best grade counts in your term GPA and CGPA, and the course's credits count only once. Courses taken again at C+ or above fall under an all grades count policy instead.

To see the effect of a repeat here, remove the old attempt and enter the course once with the better grade. The handbook also sets a minimum CGPA of 2.00 for good standing.

Which scale applies to you? The one-decimal points (A- 3.7, B+ 3.3) are from the scale printed in the LUMS Graduate Handbook. The 2025-26 Undergraduate Student Handbook sets A+ at 4.00, the best grade rule for repeats and the 2.00 minimum. Some undergraduate transcripts show two-decimal points (3.67, 3.33, 2.67, 2.33, 1.67) instead, so both scales are offered. Match the calculator to the points printed on your own transcript.

Questions people ask

Is an A+ worth more than an A at LUMS?

No. Both A+ and A carry 4.0 grade points, so an A+ does not lift your GPA above 4.00. It shows on your transcript as a mark of exceptional work. The handbook treats A+ as an absolute grade, awarded for outstanding performance rather than position in the class.

How do I calculate my LUMS GPA?

Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add these up, and divide by the total credit hours for the semester. For example, 51.9 grade points over 16 credit hours gives a GPA of 3.24.

Does LUMS use relative grading?

Largely, yes. The handbook says grades from A to D may be awarded on relative performance, while A+ and F are absolute. That is why this calculator takes letter grades, not marks. Your instructor's cut-offs decide which letter a given score becomes.

What CGPA do I need to stay in good standing at LUMS?

The undergraduate handbook sets 2.00 as the minimum CGPA. Its academic standing section sets out probation and separation for students below that level. Check the current handbook for the exact steps in your programme, since they are revised each year.

How do I convert a LUMS CGPA to a percentage?

LUMS does not set a percentage conversion. For forms that ask for one, the HEC equivalence table is the usual reference. The CGPA to percentage calculator shows the HEC band and the simple CGPA ÷ 4 × 100 figure side by side.
