At IIUI, an A starts at 80 marks and carries 4.00. Below that, grades step down every 5 marks in half-point steps: B+ 75 to 79.99 (3.50), B 70 to 74.99 (3.00), and so on to D at 50 to 54.99 (1.00).

IIUI grading table
From IIUI's Academic Regulations for Undergraduate Studies, applying to students admitted from Spring 2024.
| Marks (%) | Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|---|
| 80 and above | A | 4.00 |
| 75 to 79 | B+ | 3.50 |
| 70 to 74 | B | 3.00 |
| 65 to 69 | C+ | 2.50 |
| 60 to 64 | C | 2.00 |
| 55 to 59 | D+ | 1.50 |
| 50 to 54 | D | 1.00 |
| Below 50 | F | 0.00 |
IIUI has no A-, B-, C- or D+ below A. Each band runs to .99, so 79.99 is still B+. There is no rounding up to the next band.
What is different at IIUI
IIUI is generous at the top. Anyone scoring 80 or more gets a full 4.00, where HEC-style tables give 3.66 for 80 to 84. But the steps below are larger: a single mark can cost half a grade point.
The pass mark also changed. IIUI's older 2019 General Academic Rules set the BS pass mark at 60%. The current UG regulations set it at 50%. If you were admitted before Spring 2024, check which rules your department applies to you.
Worked example: IIUI semester
| Course | Credit hours | Marks | Grade | Quality points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | 3 | 80 | A | 12.00 |
| Course 2 | 3 | 79.5 | B+ | 10.50 |
| Course 3 | 3 | 74.9 | B | 9.00 |
| Course 4 | 4 | 62 | C | 8.00 |
| Course 5 | 2 | 54 | D | 2.00 |
| Total | 15 | 41.50 |
GPA = 41.50 ÷ 15 = 2.77.
Course 2 at 79.5 stays B+ because IIUI does not round marks. Half a mark more would have added 1.50 quality points. See the CGPA calculator to combine semesters.
The same marks at IIUI and on the HEC scale
IIUI's table differs most from the HEC-style table that many universities use in two places: 80 to 84 marks and the low 50s.
| Marks | IIUI grade (points) | HEC-style grade (points) |
|---|---|---|
| 90 | A (4.00) | A (4.00) |
| 82 | A (4.00) | A- (3.66) |
| 77 | B+ (3.50) | B+ (3.33) |
| 73 | B (3.00) | B (3.00) |
| 69 | C+ (2.50) | B- (2.66) |
| 66 | C+ (2.50) | C+ (2.33) |
| 62 | C (2.00) | C (2.00) |
| 57 | D+ (1.50) | D+ (1.30) |
| 52 | D (1.00) | D (1.00) |
An IIUI student with mostly marks in the low 80s ends up with a higher CGPA than a student with the same marks on the HEC scale, but a mark of 68 or 69 comes out lower, a C+ at 2.50 against a B- at 2.66, because IIUI has no B- band. If you are comparing your CGPA with someone from another university for a scholarship or job, the CGPA to percentage calculator uses HEC's equivalence bands.
Attendance and the final exam
The UG regulations make attendance of more than 75% compulsory to sit the terminal (final) exam. A student who falls short cannot take the exam in that course, so check your attendance before the final with the attendance calculator.
Minimum CGPA
The minimum CGPA for the award of an undergraduate degree is 2.00. Use the previous semesters section of the calculator to see what semester GPA you need to stay above it.
Questions people ask
What is the IIUI GPA system in percentage?
A 80 and above (4.00), B+ 75 to 79.99 (3.50), B 70 to 74.99 (3.00), C+ 65 to 69.99 (2.50), C 60 to 64.99 (2.00), D+ 55 to 59.99 (1.50), D 50 to 54.99 (1.00), and F below 50. This applies to students admitted from Spring 2024.
What is the pass mark at IIUI?
Under the current UG regulations, a course is passed at 50%, a D at 1.00. IIUI's older 2019 rules set the BS pass mark at 60%, so students from older intakes should check which rules apply to them. The minimum CGPA for a degree is 2.00.
Does IIUI round marks up?
The regulations set bands running to .99, such as 75 to 79.99 for B+, and state no rounding rule. So 79.5 is B+, not A. Enter your marks exactly as shown on your result. This differs from COMSATS and QAU, which round marks to a whole number before grading.
How do I convert my IIUI CGPA to percentage?
IIUI's regulations do not set a conversion formula. HEC's equivalence table gives a band for each CGPA, for example 2.77 is in the B band of 71 to 74%. Use the CGPA to percentage calculator and check your transcript for any IIUI figure.
